A Look at the Fresh Air Fund By Bill Gray, Ogilvy Group North America’s former Co-CEO

Established in 1877, the Fresh Air Fund is a nonprofit agency dedicated to providing New York City children with opportunities to get out of the city and enjoy fresh air through several different programs. The Summer Camping Program sends 3,000 children to experience one of five camps in Fishkill, New York. The five camps each have a different focus: Camp Anita Bliss Coler is for girls between the ages of 9 and 12; Camp Hayden Marks is for boys between the ages of 9 and 12; and Camp Hidden Valley is for boys and girls with or without special needs who are between ages of 8 and 12. Camp Tommy is for older boys between the ages of 12 and 15, and Camp Mariah is the program’s career-focused opportunity where both boys and girls take part in a career awareness program.

The Fresh Air Fund also offers year-round opportunities with weekend camping programs throughout all four seasons. Participants looking to develop leadership skills are invited to partake in the Counselor-in-Training program, designed for boys and girls 16 and 17 years of age.
